No Love Lost 04:08
Poison in the water Poison in the air You poisoned your own daughter You poisoned your own head Now everybody is a junker Sucking blood from the earth While Candy's on the corner feeding off the dirt There’s no love lost from my eyes There’s no love lost what a surprise I love my brother Though I don’t see him anymore You poisoned your own mother As she opens up the door But don’t the shining moon look pretty Shining down through the trees Just put your mind on the sideline baby Put your mind at easy There ain’t no shade for the sinner Who stuff their guts then look away Then serve their brains up for dinner Then leave you standing in the rain There’s no love lost from my eyes There’s no love lost what a surprise

Sorrow in the morning Beside the billows fire Walking through the garden down by the lonely spire She makes comedy so pleasantly The lark and sparrow call Comedy so pleasantly echoing off the wall Echoing off the wall Now it’s long gone to the long blond Days when summer reigned Now it’s long gone to the long blond Those days may never come again Now you’ve found your sanctuary in melody so fair You’ve found your sanctuary on a stage out there On a stage out there Sing high and in tune together like the Ruby Thrushes call Drink long into the night until tomorrow rushes on Sorrow in the morning Beside the billows fire Waking through the garden down by the lonely spire Down by the lonely spire Now it’s long gone to the long blond Days when summer reigned Now its long gone to the long blond Those days may never come again Sorrow in the morning Beside the billows fire Walking through the garden Down by the lonely spire Down by the lonely spire

I hear the singing And the chiming of the bells ringing All throughout the emptiness of this old Cathedral town They came by again today They’re kicking all the clowns It’s how I made my living breaking bread and spreading vision Of loneliness on fire Now it’s down to the wire And I’m selling all I own It’s all been ground down And I’ve been falling so long To where the sky is pink above my head And the songs echo through the canyon walls Now the Devil in the body aches with its parasitic mind Caused many good women to take their own life With a rustic fade away I hear the singing And the chiming of the bells ringing All throughout the emptiness of this old Cathedral town They came by again today They’re kicking all the clowns It’s all been ground down And I’ve been falling so long To where the sky is pink above my head And the songs echo through the canyon walls The weeping willow bows Through the cotton wood cloud While the tender golden leaves helicopter to the ground Made into a rotten mound It’s all been ground down And I’ve been falling so long To where the sky is pink above my head And the songs echo through the canyon walls I hear the singing And the chiming of the bells ringing All throughout the emptiness of this old cathedral town They came by again today They’re kicking all the clowns It’s all been ground down And I’ve been falling so long It’s all been ground down And I’ve been falling so long To where the sky is pink above my head And the songs echo through the canyon walls It’s all been ground down And I’ve been falling so long

Ice Water 04:21
If you were to the tumble over the lies you told Would you drag your lip across the floor And if I was a wild bird that warbled Would you shoot me down for a prized feather to fall Now it’s all ice water in my heart Gives me the shivers, a cold aching pain I’ll never feel that good again With the rivers high rise and fall You can rosin up, drag your feet across the floor I’m just a rundown body and a crooked heart So much stopping and going I forgot to start Now it’s all ice water in my heart Gives me the shivers, a cold aching pain I’ll never feel that good again Now it’s all ice water in my heart Gives me the shivers, a cold aching pain I’ll never feel that good again

Some Fool 05:10
Some fool said I wish I was ten times richer, smarter too Then again maybe not I’d still get thrown out under the bus I wish I could grow up to be that much thinner So I could hide behind a straw when you let me down Maybe blow away to some other town It’s so easy to abuse the plots you grow And the crops that you lose Take love into your heart, don’t be cruel It’s so easy to abuse the plots you grow And the crops that you lose Take love into your heart, don’t be cruel The colour of the autumn sky is so grey But the blues do survive Like the wrong words to say Said offside, the wrong way Weighted down by all that you own So carry forth to give away and loan What you’ve got away You got away so long with so little It’s so easy to abuse the plots you grow And the crops that you lose Take love into your heart, don’t be cruel Some fool said I wished I was ten times richer, smarter too Then again maybe not I’d still get thrown out under the bus I wish I could grow up to be that much thinner So I could hide behind a straw when you let me down Maybe blow away to some other town It’s so easy to abuse the plots you grow And the crops that you lose Take love into your heart, don’t be cruel It’s so easy to abuse the plots you grow And the crops that you lose Take love into your heart, don’t be cruel

Go lassie go Before the flowers all cover in snow Show a sign of love Before the cockerel crow Go lassie go Before the flowers all cease to show Show a sign of love Before the cockerel crow Go Lassie Go Go gentle into the night Before the first morning light Go lassie go Before the flowers all cover in snow Go lassie go The flowers all cease to show a sign of love Before the cockerel crow Go lassie go

All Sing Out 03:08
All sing out in unison As I lay singing And your soul can rest assured Now that everyone is heard Ways from yesterday keep flooding your mind But now you speak so much clearer now That you’re not spinning circles around the sun Not caught up with anyone There will be peace in the valley Just let the lights shine down our way again But not likely on this earth We’ll be shuffling the dirt Captain your ship is sinking in vain As you lay, lay sleeping Not bound for any shore With riptides and sea lice and a bend in the shore Come and open up your door
9.
Fumes 03:03
Fumes so thick I had a hard time breathing But it’s all right Just catching colds and breathing smoke And watching that shit fly through the air Fumes so thick I’ve got nothing left to believe in But it’s alright So I’ll drown my brain in quarts of grain Tying that knot on a dime Everybody is alright by me As the earth shakes and the bodies ache For a lowly smile and in a while, they’ll rearrange All our names and make us turn on a dime Fumes so thick I had a hard time dreaming but it’s all right Because that pressure rose and drenched our clothes And made our hair stand up on end
10.
Look Out 02:26
Look out there’s a crest on the breast of the lady who’s been yearning Look out as the bubbles cease to rise as the ale warming And the hills are all quite quiet now Without a harmony in layers And the ploughmen are all driving the birds from a love song Look out as the serviette gets stained from the party you never left alone dear Look out as the songs turn bitter and sweet as spring starts yawning And the hills are all quite quiet now Without a harmony in layers And the ploughmen are all driving the birds from a love song
11.
So Wild 04:20
So wild you use to be Now it’s just a symphony of sounds flooding your mind Off the rails you use to fly, always getting high Watching life pass by your eyes Now you’re the queen of aerospace Magazines and a 100 faces Peeking through the sky at a thousand miles Plastic dinners all served to size They’re all first class winners with beautiful eyes Though I see through I still want you All night you use to wait to watch the birds rise And the sun come alive in the morning time My love never fails Love you even more than I did before and it’s still growing So wild you use to be Now it’s just a symphony of sounds flooding your mind Though I see through I still want you
12.
It’s a funny situation But it’s ending now And it all came down too Feelings of loss and love and jealousy, it’s true Just keep your candles burning for you never know When a guest may reappear Many friends have come Many friends will go You just never know what for Just keep the love inside your heart don’t let it show Angry weather up above still there’s blue skies But your clouds never disappear Oh you’re in a funk You just need a gentle hand and a lending ear Will my tender words every be forgiven now or heard Though cloaked in innocents and jewels And melody so clearly hanging in the air To float on down the line To the one I love in time Keep the love inside your heart

about

When the dew falls over the tall grass of the Pacific Northwest and the autumn sun glistens like a million skylights darting off into space and reflecting back off the Olympic Peninsula, the smell is sweet and yet, decay is in the air. The hum of fog horns churn in the distance, while lorries ply by and billboard signs weep and peel along highway 17, calling to mind last summer's humidity. The fishermen go out to sea even as high heels click along side streets and a barge piled high with a stack of junk cars unexpectedly tumbles into the harbour. Here in Victoria, David Parry (Loving) and Evan Cheadle set up in Parry's analogue studio; the two calling on a crew of brilliant musicians, which includes the likes of Clayton Linthicum (Kacy and Clayton) & Keenan Mittag-Degala (Elan Noon). Lilting violins, violas and cellos blend with acoustic guitars as the pedal steel chimes. The nearby pub seems to always beckon and call, but a shadowy figure lights the road on fire with metre high flames, so they take the long way back to the studio. When the light on the highway flickers and the morning sun begins to rise, they set up a pair of microphones to record “Ice Water.” The coffee pot steams like cloud bursts, yet no one looks at the clock on the wall, not even as the morning sun peaks through the stained-glass window colouring the moment.

Fault Line Serenade was written in between several years of touring as a member of The Deep Dark Woods. By the time Cheadle came to record, he had stock piled this collection of songs which harken back to records produced in the 60s and 70s. Drawing inspiration from the likes of Gene Clark and Bobbie Gentry to Bert Jansch and Tim Hardin. Everything on display within this Fault Line Serenade.
